Personalizing Furniture can stop many arguments when you have more than one child. And adding a name on the item will make the child feel very special.
I came across this director’s chair at my local thrift store and decided it would be perfect for my grandson’s room. It was in decent shape and just needed to be cleaned since it had been left outside. I gladly paid the ten dollars and took it home.
First Step:
After removing the seat and back, I scrubbed the stains on the fabric with stain remover and ran them through the laundry. After drying, I decided to put my grandsons name across the back. I only had stencils that were cursive font on card stock and decided it would work since I didn’t want to go to the local arts and crafts store. Actually I didn’t want to get out of the house that day….
Practice:
Since I was personalizing furniture made of cloth, I used fabric paint. I practiced using the paint on a fabric scrap until I got the hang of it. If you have never used a specific medium, I would advise you to practice with it first.
Putting practice into action:
After practicing, I laid the back on a flat surface and placed the stencils on the fabric spaced to my liking. Next I filled in the open areas of the stencils with the fabric paint and removed the stencils so the paint could dry. I let dry 24 hours as the paint instructed and reassembled the chair frame.
Finishing the project:
I had chosen to just clean the frame and not repaint it since it was in good shape. I liked the color and the edges looked rustic. Once clean, the chair was ready to add to his room. I would recommend personalizing furniture (at least one item) in each child’s room. Younger children love to see their name displayed.
Fun Fact: Kids like to have their name on everything , even if its handwritten.
JESUS LUVS!!! Most handsome boy you got there! BE BLESSED!!!
